Smokey Smarty

This person is clearly too smart for me. I need to lock myself in a room and learn some animation techniques.

YES: Drunk Boating

So, imagine all the games that were mildly lame and frustrating as a kid (i.e. battleship, scrabble, war). What if someone told you that all those games could become a whole lot more fun by drinking during them. What if some one told you that out there, there was a version of Battleship for sleazy college pregamers... Well there is.

Clark Little Makes Me Want to Surf

Here is the amazingly beautiful shore break photography by Clark Little. I love the colors and unique wave formations. Keep capturing the moment Clark, I'm going to surf the outside set.

My Brute

So, while creeping on the "book" I noticed a little link on a colleague's page to Mybrute, something I was not familiar with. So I clicked on it and to my surprise, was immediately  met with a challenge to battle in the arena with a custom gladiator.

Being the champion gamer that I am, I accepted the challenge and created Champkoer the greatest Mybrute champion of all time. Upon entering the arena, thirsty for blood, I realized that you don't actually get to control your lil' brute, but instead have to watch him helplessly murder or be murdered.

My initial reaction was, "this is so incredibly lame, who would want to sit there and watch two random automated characters battle." Needless to say Champkoer slaughtered the opponent and then I was compelled to have him claim more victims.

The site only allows for 2-3 battles per day depending on your brute's level. Champkoer is now a level 3. Champkoer dares you... dares you, to meet him in the arena... http://champkoer.mybrute.com

THIS ART ROCKS!

I love Matheus Lopes's art, it rocks my brain. I am going to immediately buy some of his T's here!

Sylar Designs New Play-Doh Ads

It appears that Sylar has been searching for the super Play-Doh powers in little kids heads. For those of you who are unfamiliar with NBC's Heroes, Sylar is the villain who has the power to steal other super abilities by chopping off the tops off his victim's skulls and staring it out of their raw brains.

I get the point of this ad but can't help but stare at the removed top half of the lil' heads and be nauseated.

Duct Tape Zombies

Easily the best commercial I have seen in a while.

Trever Hoehne's Blurry Things

Every time I find myself alone in the backseat of a car, which seems to be rare these days, I feel transported to the age of 5. All the little things I used to to do to keep myself busy while my parents listened to NPR or talked about lame things, come rushing back but not in a memory, in action. I will start jumping telephone poles with my eyes or trying to blink out the gaps in the road paint lines. A personal fav', then and still today, was to go into "blurry world". No game involved or goal to reach. Just squint and stare.

Trever Hoehne's photo portfolio piece "Blurry Things" brings me back. You gatta love blurry world and his photos are beautiful. Check out his site here.

Awesome multiplied by 9

So if none of you have been paying attention, the Tim Burton produced animated feature "9" looks haaamazing. It is based off a short made by UCLA student Shane Acker as his senior thesis film. Acker is directing the feature with voices from Elijah Wood, John C. Rielly, and Jennifer Connelly.

So far all we know is that in a parallel world after humans are wiped out, little zipper-clad buddies battle ferocious-looking, soul-stealing, scissor armed meanies. If that is not enough to put my ass in a theater seat opening night than I don't know what is. Check out the sick trailer here!

Just a little something something

Gregory Crewdson Photos

This Guy takes the coolest photos! He spends huge moolah on each print, shooting 30 to 40 large format stills with massive production value. Then combining the best of the best parts in photoshop he turns out big-budget-movie-loo
king still scenes. I would love to see his prints
live because I am sure "the cloud" does them no justice.

All of his stuff feels super eerie in sci-fi/horror sort of way. Either way, they are none the less beautiful and should be inspiring to any one looking for that feeling you get right before aliens snatch you up and anal probe you.

Sleepy Sun

In today's world of long-tailed indy  triumph, it is every music snobs favorite moment to realize they are listening to a rare musical gem that their friends don't even know about. I wish I could say that I didn't feel pride in those moments when you get to say, "You don't know them? Fuck! Do you live in a hole or something?!" The truth is I do.

To counter this guilty pleasure I am promoting a San Francisco band that I think warrants the indy trophy of "shameless self promotion through the systematic put-downs of peer listeners." So here it is... Sleepy Sun.

What!?
You don't know them?!
I swear you must not like music at all.

Check them out on their Sleepy Sun - Embrace - Lord or myspace page.

Jeff Wall in Wolverine

While watching Wolverine in theaters today (which was almost as disappointing as expected) I noticed a set that reminded me of a Jeff Wall photo that I have always loved. If you have seen the movie, when Charlie from Lost (Dominic Monaghan) gets visited by the hit man from Sum of All Fears (Liev Schreiber) they are in this cool carnival trailer with tons of light bulbs hanging from the ceiling. Too bad Weapon X had to taint something so nice with terrible compositing, horrendous dialogue, and innumerable  Hugh Jackman flexing shots. :(

Welcome to the Cloud

It was just recently that I heard an intellectual speaking about the one sided nature of blogging. He stated that the internet has breed a generation of narcissists who give and give and give information about themselves but could care less about what the rest of the "cloud" has to say.

In the moment, I could not have agreed more. I reassured myself, "see, this is why you don't have a blog!" I believed that I had somehow subconsciously been aware of this Han Solo blog phenomena and that I had unknowingly been avoiding starting my own because I am not someone who is interested in giving without anyone caring to receive.

Then it hit me...

At 3 am as I procrastinated yet another college writing project, I caught myself surfing facebook, geekologie, inspire me now, and other top quality net content. I realized that I was a taker, and had it not been for blogs and the mindless personal splurging of all the other self absorbed technophiles out there, I would have probably been writing my paper.

On that note, I decided to start my own blog. Half because I'm as narcissistic as the common deutscher, and half because I truly believe that if I try hard enough, someone out there will put off something more important to indulge in my contribution to the cloud we know as the internet.

I hope you enjoy.

Sincerely,

Your deutscher,
